New Kent High School is home to the NKHS Chorale, Chamber Choirs, Concert Choir, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and the Trojan Marching Band.
New Kent High School regularly hosts and participates in events sponsored by District 1 of the Virginia Band & Orchestra Director's Association (VBODA), Virginia Choral Director's Association (VCDA), Northern Neck/Middle Peninsula Area (NN/MP Area), and the Virginia Marching Band Cooperative (VMBC).
Joseph L. Williams, Director
Joseph Williams is the Director of Music at New Kent High School where he conducts the Bands and Choirs, Pit Orchestra, teaches Guitar, and leads the NKHS Trojan Marching Band.
A native of Athens, GA, Joey has lived across the south and mid-west. Joey graduated from Western Michigan University where he earned the Bachelor of Music Education degree and studied conducting with David Montgomery, Robert Spradling, Ronald Oliver, and Kimberly Dunn-Adams. While at WMU he served as Drum Major of the nearly 300 member Bronco Marching Band for two years.
In 2010, Joey was the Assistant Conductor for the two-time DCI World Champion Phantom Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps. He is also on staff for the Bands of America semi-finalist Reeths-Puffer High School Marching Band and has worked several groups across Michigan, North Carolina, and South America.
Joey is a brother of Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Fraternity for College Bandmembers. He also holds membership in the National Association for Music Educators as well as the Virginia Music Educators Association. In his free time, he performs on clarinet with the Commonwealth Winds and enjoys rec sports with friends.
